vmax is a bruiser. The new ones handle acceptably, but its no sportbike.

it's true, a little more comfort, bad handling, much straight line power and torque. Hey it is a cruiser...kinda.

If you want an 09 you might be out of luck. They only made a certain #, and they were by order only. What does that mean? Basically, you had to order and pay before it was shipped. So said Sport Rider Magazine.

I was looking at an older one because I'm not exactly looking for another loan. I know they aren't as fast, but they're more interesting to me.

Sorry it was CycleWorld

Suggested retail price of the new bike is $17,990, but you have to pre-order. Starting today, June 4, and until October 31, Yamaha/Star dealers will be accepting $1000 deposits. That secures a V-Max when deliveries begin in late October or early November of this year. However, just 2500 units will be brought into the U.S. for the 2009 model year. After that number is reached, the order books close until next year.

Better hurry...

The 2009 can still be found at dealerships and they are willing to deal on them. I got mine in March and it was $16500. That may not sound like a great deal, but this is an amazing bike. The 1st gen vmax's are a blast too and you can get a nice one without breaking the bank.

I ride an old school sled with out all the fancy gold racing valves and a really old school chassis, not a cruiser but you'd be surprised how well it handles at 500 lbs

The older V-Max bikes are alot of fun. You can keep up with sport bikes if you hang off a little like a monkey, but it is lots of fun. You also need to remember it handles like it has a hinge in the middle, which isn't bad as long as you expect it. Hard, off and on the throttle lifts and settles the bike a bunch. Funny stuff.

The suprising thing about them on the long rides is that the seating position and the wind beat the out of you and will wear you out if you aren't used to it. More so than a regular nekkid bike. I can't remember what RPM, but there is a SUDDEN rush at around 6K (give or take). You don't want to hit that RUSH in mid corner. Lots of fun if you do though. Big time grins.

Not sure of the specific reason why, but I have been told to get a 1985 model as they had something more desireable about them. First year? More Hp? not sure.

Also, the sound really good with the right set of aftermarket pipes on them.

They are just plain ole bad . I like them much more than the new model.

That was it! Brain fart when I wrote that this morning and couldn't remember.

V-Boost. Yep, that's a great explaination.

Thanks.

I remember when they came out, I was riding a Seca 900 at the time and the dealer was a good friend. He had two new Vmax. A GI came in to test ride, so we all went out front to watch (new bike, hot rod, ya know?)

This dealership was on a road that went up a small hill, then had a 10 mph 90 degree corner at the top. Mr. Army hopped on, with helmet, proceeded to launch up the road and straight at the top into the ditch... he said he had no idea how fast it would be... LOL!!! the bike wasn't hurt to bad and neither was he, luckily.

Those thing were the rage when they came out, but I liked the styling of the Kawasaki that came out the next year, think it was the original Intruder.. looked like a drag bike with a fat tire and flat bar.
