Carrying a lap top on a road trip. Thoughts?

Just wondering if carrying a lap top on a long road trip is worth the hassle. My main concern is will it crash the hard drive. And will it possibly be suseptable to other damage. Your thoughts please.

Won't crash the hard drive. I do it all the time. Get an aircard and surf the net all the way.

Or on the bike, get a backpack with a laptop sleeve and you're good to go.

That's pretty much what I plan on doing packing wise.

Tiatool: Don't know if we will need the aircard. I've been thinking about that. I think we are just going to find hotels that have broadband and do it that way.

If you already have an aircard I would bring it. Sometimes the hotels broadband can be last place.

I ride with mine in my backpack on my way to work all the time. Just make sure you keep a garbage bag in your backpack, in case you get caught in the rain. Wrap the laptop, power cord, mouse in there if you get in a pinch.

We had an aircard at one time. Can't justify the expence just for this trip really. And we've had pretty good luck picking up the hotels broadband in the past.

Good advice. Thanks. Knew to put it in a plastic bag but wasn't thinking of the other stuff.

Yeh they are pretty pricey. And as far as the hotel internet goes, I only had problems with it a couple times while working in Washington state. Probably my luck, when people say 9 times out of 10 it works. Im the 1/10th that it doesnt work.

I carry my laptop in a bcakpack when on my bike when i go to work. In the car at work I've found different "hot spots" with WIFI. Most hotels, have wireless broadband as well as libraries and such. (even your local HEB and such)

I hear ya. My luck seems to run like that for different things.

It's good to hear that this should not be a problem. We will be able to document our trip with pictures while we are on the road instead of having to wait to get back home.

No doubt, I plan on doing the same thing for mine. Me and some friends are leaving June 17th outta beaumont and headed to Austin, stay the night then head to Utopia and stay the night there. Get up next day, ride three sisters and then head to fredericksberg and spend the night. that saturday get up and go to the luckenbach annual hot rod and custom car show for a while. then start heading back to beaumont. What you have in store for your trip?
