ok so far i had my buddy take my bike to his shop just to get a 3rd party look at it. He works at honda motorsports on 290 and west. He found that it was a qourt low and that the oil light should have been on, but it was not. he thinks some thing might have happend when then they tryed to charge it. so im going to take it to the dealership this week end. so it sounds like its fine but just want to keep and eye out to see if there is any leak where oil would come out.

don't tell them you had a 3rd party look it just yet. wait and see what they say, if they wanna be a'holes then drop the hammer on them. i dunno, if it was low on oil and the light should have been on, i think i would still feel better with a new engine or bike

Ummmm....nooo....bikes come with oil. They do that to avoid precisely this exact situation. They used to come in the crate without the front wheel attached, then enough 15yr old assembly mechanics screwed that up enough times where now they pretty much come pre-assembled, except for the handlebars. Even those are on the bike, just need to be swung into position.

How do I know....?

Not sure if your Oil Light would come on just because it is low, I think it is a Oil Pressure Low indicating light.

New engines can use more oil during break in, But to go down a qt in a bike in the first few hundred miles is a lot. I would guess it was not completely full when yu picked it up.

As for the smell might just me normal new engine paint etc heating up to sustained opertaional temps , You did not get a hot light either.

So I would think it is fine, have the dealer change the oil and keep close track of it.

Read your Ownwers Manual.
Easy to over react when you just spent all that money on a new toy.

[QUOTE=1340HIGH;2014692]Not sure if your Oil Light would come on just because it is low, I think it is a Oil Pressure Low indicating light.

All the bikes i have dealt with, the light is for low level, not pressure and if it was a quart low might not get the light. Now when he hammers the throttle it might have come on for a few seconds and gone back off.
I am betting that his bike is fine.
My 02 as usual
