WSBK: Lanzi replaces Laconi at DFX

DFX Corse Ducati has confirmed Lorenzo Lanzi will return to the World Superbike Championship as a replacement for the injured Regis Laconi.

The Italian hasn't appeared on the international stage since the end of 2008 when he completed his season with the privateer RG Ducati team, finishing 14th in the overall standings.

Nonetheless, as a former factory Ducati rider and three-time WSBK race winner including a surprise victory at Valencia last year for RG -, Lanzi joins DFX with considerable experience of the 1098RS.

Having also tested for the team towards the end of last year, Lanzi will now make his race debut with DFX at the upcoming Miller Motorsports Park round and is expected to remain until Laconi is fit enough to return.

Lanzi, who also has six podiums and a pole position to his name, had recently been mooted for a return to the WSBK fray having been connected with a ride at Althea Honda.

Laconi is expected to be out of action for some months after fracturing his vertebrae in an accident during free practice at Kyalami.

Good for Lanzi. I am glad someone is giving him a chance. Maybe this could jumpstart a fulltime seat next season.
