building a bike

been wanting to build an r6 for cheap. i know frames can be had for cheap and motors are easy to find. the question i have is that motors and frames dont share the same vin. i can get a titled frame for not that much money. the question lies in how can i tell if the motor i want to get is not stolen. i know you can buy a race motor but those dont come with a serial number. is there a way to find out through guys on here or a website as to weather or not the motor is hot. thanks guys in advance for your time
its safer to fear those things that might do bodily harm; I say it's safer to own those things that might to bodily harm and use them to keep you safer.

A clean(title) and straight frame(not smashed to with the neck tucked) will run at least a $1000 and the motor at least the same... plus all the other parts. Might as well buy a whole one.

+1. You might as well find you a wrecked bike. I know where an 07 r6 is that has most of the parts that can prolly be bought and built for 5k. With a clean title
Riding a Duc is kind of like, you may get a cramp in your wrist, but you keep on trucking because it feels so good.
