An old hard drive magnet should work the smae as the fancy "triggers".
I try to touch the buried coil with my sidestand.
They are big coils that create a magnetic field. A vehicle will create a disruption that activate the system. A modern sportbike will hardly make any disruption since aluminum is non magnetic.
