Question Yeah, Need Some Advice Again!

I swear MotoHouston, I am going to get my money's worth out of you people!

Anyway, my chain is on the way, my new front fender and rear tire hugger have been shipped and should be to me by tuesday...

My bike is pretty much stripped of all its earthly possesions and basically a frame holding its innards and a front tire.

Why so naked?

It's getting ready for paint...

Now, before I go diving head first, I want to run this scenario before the people of MH before I start, someone usually has some good stuff to say that really help.

right now I am only in possession of the fuel tank and tail, and I don't to start painting till i get my front and rear fender, so I got time to get plan together...

I am painting the bike a flat black with some glossy red designs.
Now, for the flat black, will I need some clear coat, or just primer the bike part, sand, and spray a few times with the black and leave as is?

Also, I want to do something with various metal parts of the bike:
The actual frame (which is exposed now since I am doing a streetfightin' convert)
The headers
And the mufflers (after I cut it down)

I am thinking for the exhaust parts, maybe some hi-temp paint and some epoxy paint for the frame.

But just to be shure, I am open to all ideas, advice, suggestions and stories.

And again, thank you everybody!
I have already asked for help twice, and alot of ya'll came through with awesome stuff! And a nod to camaroz2866 on where to get my chain set, at only 168 for new chain and rear-sprocket, thats hard to beat!

-John (my actual first name... go figure...)

P.S.: I will be posting pictures soon, don't worry...

you always need clear coat. or the first time you put gas in the bike and miss it will peel your paint right down to the plastic again

So, the clear coat won't interfere with the fact I want the black to flat, right? Just dumbing my question down as much as possible so I get the full effect of the answer...

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask:
While I have the back tire, I was trying to change the brake pads, but the bolt that holds the pads in is STRIPPED (the thing I hate about used ...) any ideas on getting that out, the same thing with my chain guard, a bolt holding it on is stripped.

and yeah, not-so-flat black is preferred over peeled paint...

the high temp paint prolly wont work. i have seen alot of times it still burns off. if u want a black look i have seen alot of bikes have wrapped headers and midpipe. basically wrapped all the way to the tail would look sick. ps if you need any help shortening the pipe i chopped down mine and gots the know how. gl

oh and if you do a flat black paint i think its called a matte and is actually a color and finish used on alot of harleys lately. and a flat black paint job with white and red pinstripes would be sick and is a scheme i have always wanted to do but i cant do pinstripe fo .

oh and you might be able to find a tractor enamel in a flat black that should be fine if you spill a little gas on it.

yo bandito, what if I thermal wrapped the exhaust stuff than painted it with hi-temp? From what I hear, the wrap starts to discolor and what not after awhile.

And that that gas spill don't look to good... like your tank had a premature

idk about the thermal wrap then paint. it seems like you want that flat smooth look on the exhaust. maybe powder coating will hold up to the heat and i have heard of people coating the inside of the pipe to keep down the exhaust temps and make the bike run cooler but that may be basically ceramic coating. so idk?

i am on the NW side. I feel you on 'fighters tho. Everyone is looking all hard. In honesty, alot more chopper guys give me props than sport bikers. And that was with mild conversion (dirtbike handle bars, stripped fairings, harley davidson-esque headlights)... can't wait to see what people say next.
