Rat Bikes

A lot of people on MH have ugly bikes. (Sorry, but the truth is often unattractive.) But who here has a true rat bike per the definition?

And for the thread police, this isn't the same as the "show me your bike" thread. I'm looking for genuine, card-carrying rat bikes here.

What makes a "true" ratbike? Seems to me that people spend significant sums of money making their bikes look liek rat bikes....which is contrary to the term.

I think it is beyond just letting your bike get beat and tired. I believe it involves taking an old beater bike and making it your own via parts from other bikes, or leaving off parts altogether. Black or camo are the colors of choice.

I don't think so; it's way too polished and clean looking.

Here's a great rat bike, however: http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/...ingratbike.htm

yours isn't even close. and btw, i had to search that thread for the pics of ur bike, both links you posted send you to the same thing, some reply about how it was the first brit I4 to take on the japs.

ur bike is just missing fairings and flat black. nothing rat about it. not in the traditional sense at least. it's in way better shape than most rat bikes.

same for u kacivic. too pretty to be a rat bike, but it's close!

I just think if you buy a $500 bike, then spend $1500 on stuff to make it "look" ratty.....then its not really a rat bike.

yeah, i did spend money to make the wheels red.

but in my defense, both my battery box and rear fender (neither shown in that pic) were made out of scrap sheet metal i found in my garage, and any painted surface on the bike (with the exception of the wheels) was done with a spray can.

but again, i did spend money on handlebars, etc, rather than just getting them from a scrap pile.

you havent seen it in person

the headlights are from an off road Jeep it used to be blue and you can see the old badges through the chit rattle can job the PO did for it. The stator cover, mirrors, levers, pegs, and can are all scratched to and theres wiring is everywhere. The pics make it look good though but its definetly a 20ftr

then it's just a POS bike, just looking like doesn't make something a rat bike.
