unless its explicitly posted, it is not illegal to make a right on a red. on a simillar topic, why are there sometimes 2 red light fixtures for left turn lights? not the ones that are shaped like an arrow or are for the center lane, but the light fixtures that are specifically for the left lane? sounds fishy...

Texas is one of the few states that doesn't require you turn into the first lane either. It says first "available" so if you hang a right and go across 3 lanes you are still good.

BUT it is up to you to make sure that the traffic is clear for you to do so.
