Exclamation Patriot Guard Escort Home & Funeral

Final Itineraries for SGT Gregory D. Unruh, 28, Dickinson, TX March 28 0945, April 1 1230

Gregory Unruh was born in Midland TX and later moved to Pampa TX where he was an honor student at Pampa High School. He attended Texas Tech and graduated from the University of Houston in 2004. In 2006 he enlisted into the Army to serve his country and was deployed to Iraq in November of last year. Sgt Unruh was a forward scout and was killed in action on a recon mission when his vehicle rolled over.

Sgt Unruh's father is a Vietnam Veteran.

This will more than likely be my last KIA mission as the lead RC as I will be stepping down at the end of April as your DSC. I plan on making it a good one for all involved. Lets have a big turn out to honor this fallen hero from our area, he deserves nothing but our best.

Escort Home SGT Gregory D. Unruh Friday March 28th 0945

Sgt Unruh will be coming home Friday the 28th into Scholes Airport in Galveston at 0945. Burial services will be Tuesday April 1 at 1230.

If you have ever been on a escort home from Galveston you know the airport, law enforcement and community do everything first class. The kids at the near by elementary school line the road with hand made signs and flags for the procession of our fallen hero and then the procession goes down the seawall. It is a ride you will not forget.

Lone Star Flight Museum
2002 Terminal Dr
Galveston, TX 77554
(409) 740-7722

We will set up the flag line on the tarmac 30 minutes before the plane lands and then lead the procession to the funeral home. We do not expect to need any road guards at this time. Please watch your sides while in the procession for officers running up to catch the intersection and allow them to cut across if they need to.

Funeral Services SGT Gregory D. UnruhTuesday April 1 1230

Funeral and burial services will be the same location, Forest Park East in Webster. Please be aware that there is road construction going on in the area and be safe coming in. Watch for the NASA RD 1 (Hwy 528) exit as they have been moved. Once you get to the staging area the construction will not effect us moving over to the funeral home as it is a straight shoot down the feeder road.

Funeral Services Date: Tuesaday April 1

Service Time: 1230

Staging Area: In the huge parking lot for Robert's Carpet and The Mattress Firm on the west side of I-45 South of NASA RD 1
20814 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598

Staging Time: 1000-1110
Riders Meeting & Prayer: 1110
KSU to Funeral Home: 1115

The flag line will be set up by 1130. Once the services start the FAST (forward advance support team) comprised of non flag bikes will back to the burial site. Flag bike will stay at the funeral and lead the procession the short distance to the burial site.

Ride Captains:
JohnnyD 713-817-8112
Capt Mike 409-256-7757

Flag Captain & support vehicle
Jerry Turner

The American Red Cross will be at the escort home and the funeral services with water and drinks for our riders. (Thank You!)

My thanks to Capt Mike for all the work he put into this mission, the great support from the community and Ft. Hood.

Please monitor the local calendar and the mission tread on the national web site for updates:

For newbies:

What do I wear?: Our only requirement is that you wear them, leather is normally the flavor of the day. Dress for hot weather and bring rain gear.

What to bring?: A snack, we will have some down time to rest after the service starts. We plan on a forward element moving to the cemetery with the flags once the service starts. This will not be a long day as the funeral and burial are at the same location. Services should be over by 1500.

What do I do?: Follow our lead, you will do fine, just bring a heart full of respect for this fallen hero.

Iron horses if you have them, cages are always welcomed. Bring a map to get back home and ride safe.

Thank you for all you do,

John Darner (AKA JohnnyD)
