Popo,

Get a Katy track membership. Buy a NSR50. Race with TMGP for a year. Learn how to handle a bike on the edge of control in a non-lethal environment. Ride the big bike on trackdays at 9/10's for a long while.

Play with traction, toy with slides, learn to shift your weight to gain max cornering speed. Then step it up to the big bike.

I ran TMGP for two years off and on on my YSR 50. Learned the basics. Learned to read a turn. Learned to look ahead. Learned when to head to the pits for a rider change, even if only 10 minutes into a stint. Learned to hydrate, relax, calm the heart rate, conserve energy, catch a breeze on the straight, watch the fast guys.

I moved up and raced at TWS (Texas World Speedway) and MSR C on a 600. Placed mid pack in endurance. I went to MSRH for my first time last year, took my ratty SV650 and ran a 1:52 my second session out. Lost the back end on one turn at the end of the second session, managed to ride it out under modest power without a highside, thanked the trackday organizer, went home. Took my Busa last year, ran a 1:57, went home on two wheels. I am soooo tempted to run my GSXR at race pace, but have 3 kids and a wife who depend on me. Even though I have $2M of life insurance and everything I own is free and clear, I wanna be there to ride another day.

Back at TMGP I have more fun on a mini than on a big bike. I have triumphs, scared moments, oh monents, bumps, bruises...but no real injuries so far. I also quickly realize that if my teammate is 1 second faster per lap than me on the same bike, then I must not really be that fast of a rider, regardless of how hard I try. It's an ego check. But the adrenaline rush is still there.

Do what you love. Do it hard. But use your head. 2 trackdays do not a fast rider make. 2 years and you are maybe starting to get the hang of things. But even after 20 trackdays are still a novice in terms of track experience. Fast guys are fast because they have skill, determination, and in most cases true patience.

Forget what the haters say. My dad lies down in the driveway in front of me when he sees me leaving the house on my bike. Others make stupid repetitive comments. We all take risks in life, we just value the rewards differently. That's what makes us unique, complex, and interesting. Tell the haters to talk about something else, leave you alone. It's personal, so why should they have a say? Do you tell them how to wipe their ?

whats up? i was in the same situatiuon as yourself. two years ago on the 23rd of december i was involved in a really bad accident here in danbury. the car i was in was hit by a drunk driver doing about 90 on hwy. 35 outside of danbury. i was in a coma for 26 hours and I.C.U. for 5 days. needless to say after i got home everyone was on edge. after about a month of R and R i was back it. drag racing. speeding everywhere. then the lectures started. "you need to slow down, you almost died once dont make it twice blah blah blah" i didnt let it get to me. except for my mom. i did listen to her. but she mellowed out. my life was in chaos before the wreck. then when i woke up with all kinds of stuff hooked to me a tubes down my throat it hit me. im not doing anything that i loved. i now ride an R6. have two project vehicles. and love hanging out with my parents every chance i get.

Bottom line

do what you love!!!!!! if it's friends that keep telling you to slow down. either they will understand or there's always new friends. family should understand that you are going to do what YOU love. granted if you're married and have kids is a different story but they should understand as well. JUST LIVE!!!! you only have one chance. my mom just eased up on me a lot and ive only had the bike for two months. everybody will come around in time.

Ironically, my wreck on the track is causing me to re-think riding on the street... seeing the injuries I got at the track made me wonder just how much worse it woulda been on the street.

When I sell the 10 I'm gettin' a sumo for the track!

+1,675 for the mini riding like Shadman said!

Sounds to me like you've made your decision. Stick with it. That being said...Ride a little more carefully on the road; blast it at the track in a controlled environment. If you're gonna wreck; it's best at the track...you won't get hit by a cage. Get some instruction, be smart, ride smart and ride another day. Learn from your mistakes (I know. This wasn't exactly your fault) If you fall down and go boom; get back up and try again.

PS. I know a good leather-smith to fix your leathers. He's good and pretty easy on the wallet!

Phil

i greatly respect my husband's passion and understand the danger he puts himself into everytime he gets on that bike. he's had his accidents and has spent several times in the hospital and never once have i asked him to quit. i also enjoy that same passion, even though i just ride passenger. people who have seen us ride, know how we ride.... i have taught my kids that if anything ever happened to there mommy or daddy it was what they love to do, they understand as little riders themselves what dangers are involved.

Thanks to all for the Good advise... as I said earlier, I do plan on riding again just as soon as both my leg and my bike heal... This was more as a Venting thread... Funny that just today I was called from my PD... My Sgt. said... A.J... I just recieved some disturbing news about you... I was scared due to not knowing what he was about to spit out... Can you all guess what it was??? He found out from my partner that I infact was NOT selling my bike and I AM GOING TO CONTINUE riding after we both heal... That was the disturbing news... Messed up that so man see it that way instead of seeing that Im willing to get back on something I love...

I rode with you....you are not that crazy!

How can one be selfish with ones own life? I know that death scares people...but from the point of conception we are only guaranteed one thing in life.
