i loved my GS500 and I can actually say that I rode that bike as hard as any bike can be ridden and it held up to the use but just not the abuse. I also like the riding position of it better than that of the gsxr750 and the f4i its more comfortable for longer trips. Try its dedicated to the gs500 and has alot of usefull information.

Also look at the Bandit 600. It's a lot cheaper, think they went for like $5000 for new leftovers at Stubbs a few years back. Same in every way as the 1200 except displacement and power. But still fairly capable for twisties, and with the big mass, huge gas tank, large comfy seat, easy to add bags, and most important...tubular bars (so you can change the riding position to suit your personal preference) they make great commuter / weekend haulers. And they can carry 2 up like nobody's business.

FZ6, Seca600, Zephyr500, ZR750 all fall into the same category. . But the Bandit sold for the least cash when new.

You can get an older model with a square headlight for under $2000 in good shape, newer model with cateyes and nice styling for $2500.

Come in standard

and faired versions.

Here is one decked out as a tourer:

In short, a new style UJM (Universal Japanese Motorcycle). Does it all for cheap.

Bandit ain't a bad choice, and a couple bucks in the suspension and they do just fine in da twisties...

Heck.. depending on how your skill set is, just skip the 600 and a get a 1200. Just go easy on the right hand until you get used to the torque.

Matter of fact I know where a real nice ZRX1200 Kawasaki is right now.. probably get a good deal on it and it is set up.
