how much to rent a billboard?

ok, i had this crazy idea.

with all the bike accidents and deaths, maybe there is something we can do to spread a message of safety??

if its not out of reach price wise, maybe we could take up a collection and rent a billboard on 59 somewhere, with a message like "RIDE SAFE!" and a graphic of a bike. i dunno what do you think?

maybe it could even get some exposure for the site and the community if we put under it: "a message brought to you by motohouston.com"

not only would it spread safety and get the MH name out there, it shows that there is a bike community in houston that is concerned about the growing rate of accidents. it could be a really good move from us for our community.

what do yall think? maybe we could have a contest to design the billboard and logos etc...then vote on them?

discuss:

i always like the bumper sticker that ask how many motorcyclists did you see today? look again, motorcyclists are everywhere.

not sure how much a billboard costs, but anything that prevents accidents/deaths is worth the cost IMO.

i like the idea of the site being word of mouth, because only bikers will come on

where as, if its advertised like that, alot of people that dont have bikes would prob sign up....(just my opinion, I know some sponsors, and higher up people feel different.)

2nd the billboard: Im all for safety, but i dont think a billboard will get the point across well. not to mention most people that need to be told about safety will be going to fast to see it.

and I know a lot of people on this site are generous, from first hand experience, but I dont think theyll be letting go of there money to do something like this, it would be quite expensive, and from my knowlegde you pay for a set amount of time, or monthy.

^ right!

the way i see it is: i know several times this board has raised money for the families of those who have passed due to motorcycle accidents...

maybe it would be good to use resources to prevent accidents in the 1st place?

i think the sign itself may prevent some accidents, but moreover, bringing new members to the site will help in the long run. once they see (most) everyone agreeing on what is safe practices, maybe we will see less squids on gsxrs and r6's with no lids and sandals...

I agree, and im glad your thinking about ways to help others, im not knocking your idea, but i dont think its the best way.

For some reason for alot of riders, they think how they look on a bike is what matters. I cant say im much different, but to me, some one all geared up looks like they know how to ride, unlike some guy in "sandals and shorts."

i blame the stunters...

Chris.... for once you have an awesome idea! This sounds like something good as far as looking out for motorcycle safety and more traffic for the site. But like was said prior...

How often does one look at a Billboard while driving? Unless it had something really flashy to catch my attention like or something, I'm not looking.

I still like the idea though.

Maybe you can talk to the city about putting up signs like they have for drunk driving. This X amount of miles has had X amount of deaths due to drunk driving. Maybe they can put one up for moto deaths. But then again those signs are soooo tiny and not really visible.

well hey what about doing it on a smaller scale. i see those signs all the time "100 signs for $50" etc, sure its no billboard, but we could get 1000 and put them up all over the place?

Um... I dont think we should be encouraging riders to be safe. We should have more signs about cagers looking out for riders. Riders are going to do whatever they want to do, regardless of what a sign tells them.

Check out some info on subliminal messages and put up a sign to unconciously makes cagers look for bikes. That'll probably be more effective than trying to tell some 16 year old punk to wear a lid and "ride safe". , riding safe for me is probably dangerous to a lot of people here.

you have a point, i do see where you are coming from but...

i dont and WONT count on cagers to look out for me, EVER.

i figure why even bother raising their awareness. whether they are looking out or not i need to be alert for them, and even if they are in the wrong, violate my right of way, or try to run me over on purpose, its my own responsibility to keep myself out of harms way.

i know its hard to convince a squid, but this isnt the anti-drug campaign with retarded ideas to try and promote our message...

WE HAVE !
