Don't complain too much. Admins can turn on some very unsavory features that make searching incredibly annoying, ie: image verification, spam hinderance features, or flat out turn it all off and force you to use google search. Now that ****ing sucks. They could also turn it off completely.

There are things people can do to abuse/attack a vB-site within the search function.

i thought the limit was added because when we where hacked the search function was being hit multiple times a second and bogged the server?

I can't answer for MH but that would be one of the vulnerablilities of vB, but that wouldn't be hacking. That's just getting some bot to repeat tasks, which would render any software vulnerable that is not capable of tiering executions.
