Daily Craig: Beware the Malvinas
It is finally here. The day of the BIG SOCCER GAME. Argentina is in Harris County to eat at one of the 41 "all you can eat Fogo places" and to try their best to beat THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Good Luck with that. Despite being number one in the world, the fighting Messi's have serious defects in their game. Not one of their starters is from Texas. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA has one native born Texan in Clint Dempsey and that should be enough to stump those guys in the Oilers blue and white striped shirts. Plus, Geoff Cameron once starred for the Dynamo. Geoff is from Massachusetts, but once said "y'all" and that is good enough for us.
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA also has former FORT BEND STAR, Stu Holden, in the pregame announcer booth. He went to school at Lake Olympia Middle school and Awty H.S. He also played for the Dynamo before leaving for the U.K, to join a military group hoping to keep the Falkland Islands forever safe. Argentina and the U.K. fought over these islands for 74 days in 1982. The Brits have claimed the islands as their own since 1841. Argentina is about 12,000 miles closer to the islands and calls them the Malvinas. Just another reason the U.S OF A. will pull off the upset.
Seventy thousand will pack NR-GEE THE TIX ARE EXPENSIVE STADIUM, and it will be a weird deal. Most will want the AMERICANS to win but hope to see several goals from Lionel Messi. He is the number one player in the world and heir to the model train fortune. It is like going to a motor race. You don't want to see any accidents, but if there is one, you don't want to miss it. There is one other issue. The U.S. Soccer Assn. is hoping there are no anthem accidents. You know, like playing "Dixie".
