Texans mini-camp opens

The Texans opening day of mandatory mini-camp was not unlike their 10 on-field training sessions that preceded camp. "You find out what kind of team you have in training camp," head coach Bill O'Brien noted when he discussed what they can truly evaluate during their on field work prior to training camp. Outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney was not on the field because he was sick when he came to the facility and the team sent him home. O'Brien said he's pleased with where new quarterback Brock Osweiler is in terms of command of the offense. "He's made very few mistakes in terms of operation of this offense," O'Brien said. Now Osweiler did make some actual mistakes as is commonplace in mini-camp, throwing a couple interceptions. But as O'Brien said, until the pads are on and more work is put in, it's of little consequence. Brian Cushing is hoping the team can put together their finest season since his arrival. The team has made minimal changes defensively with personnel and were one of the top defenses in the league over the course of last season. "We hope so, we trying to continue the momentum we have coming into this year," Cushing said. The team is scheduled to work out Wednesday and Thursday before taking several weeks off before training camp begins.
