Van Gundy no longer a candidate for Rockets head coaching job

Another name comes off the list for the Rockets in the search for their head coaching search. Former Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy confirmed to KPRC Sports that he is no longer a candidate for the job and that he did not talk with the team about the position.

That confirmed a report from The Vertical that Van Gundy was no part of the search process.

"I never talked to them," Van Gundy said via text message. "Thought I would, but didn't happen.

"Contrary to other's opinions, it's a good job and Harden is great," Van Gundy added.

"The choices they are pursuing are all really good choices."

Van Gundy was the Rockets head coach for four seasons from 2003-2007 and has since been an NBA analyst for ABC/ESPN.

The team's continued search appears to be focused on former NBA head coaches Mike D'Antoni, Frank Vogel and potentially Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina.

D'Antoni has interviewed with the team, while reportedly Messina has done the same. Vogel, recently let go by Indiana, has interviewed with each of the other three teams with vacant head coaching positions, Orlando, Memphis and New York.
