Local 4th-grader wins Masters' Drive, Chip & Putt Championship in Augusta

A local fourth-grader stole the hearts of many people after winning a pre-Masters Tournament competition Sunday. And not for his excellent putt -- but for his swagger.

Stephen Robert Hernandez, a student at Garden Oaks Montessori, was in shock after becoming a golf champion at the Masters. He won the Drive, Chip and Putt competition.

"I don't know what happened. This is a dream," Hernandez said.

He stunned the crowds with his signature swagger, which was a familiar sight to folks who know him back home in Houston. Stephen celebrated -- pumping his fists in the air.

His confidence and big win come as no surprise to folks at his home course, Memorial Park. Memorial Park Golf Course director Glenn Childers said Stephen isn't afraid of the spotlight or the moment.

"I texted his dad, 'Holy cow! We're gonna have to have another party,'" Childers said.

Stephen and his family are still in Georgia getting a chance to meet with past Augusta champions and watching the practice rounds as the pros get ready for the Masters.
