Local gymnast Simone Biles prepared to meet lofty expectations at 2016 Olympic Games

Expectations are sky-high for women's gymnastics heading into the 2016 Olympic Games.

One of the top contenders is 4-foot-8-inch Simone Biles, 18, who calls Spring home.

With her sights set on Rio, Biles is brushing up on her Portuguese.

She may have some work to do there, but when it comes to gymnastics, the all-around powerhouse from Spring is one to watch.

Biles told KPRC Channel 2, "I don't think anyone is very far away from me because we all have our own spark in us and once you use that spark, you can ignite anything."

"Fierce Five" 2012 gold medalists Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas are proud to have the newcomer onboard for these Games.

Douglas said, "She's a great competitor and she's a fierce competitor and that's what competition is about. People pushing each other and pushing the best out of each other."

Raisman's advice to Biles: "The less that you think about it, the better. Just take it like any other day. And Simone's already been to three World Championships, so it's basically the same thing except there are Olympic rings everywhere and everyone's watching!"

Advice to take to heart, knowing Biles' friends and family will be cheering her on.

Biles said, "I would just like to say 'Hi and thank you' because they've supported me so much and I'm really excited for Rio!"

The women gymnasts regularly train at the Karolyi ranch just north of Houston, and teammates say Biles is known to blast Selena Gomez's "Hands to Myself" in the gym to pump everyone up.
