Denny Hamlin wins Daytona 500 in closest finish ever

NASCAR fans held their breaths Sunday as Denny Hamlin crossed the finish line 0.01 seconds before his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Marth Truex Jr. in a photo finish.

The race is being called the closest finish in NASCAR history, NASCAR reports. Hamlin lead the way for 95 laps, which is a race high, and he averaged 157.549 mph.

The win is Hamlin's first at the Daytona 500 and also marks the first win automaker Toyota has seen at the race.

In fact, Toyota swept the top three, with Kyle Busch coming in third, NASCAR reports.

The 200-lap event had 20 lead changes and six cautions, according to NASCAR.
