Volunteers needed for Super Bowl LI in Houston

The Houston Super Bowl Committee is offering a unique experience for the big game in 2017. Thousands of volunteers will be needed to help during the event.

Monday, the committee opened up the application process for to serve in the days leading up to Super Bowl LI. As many as 10,000 volunteers will be needed.

The main assignment for volunteers will be to play important roles all the airports, locations and venues throughout the city that will be used by visitors coming to Houston for the festivities in the days leading up to the game.

The host committee said ideal candidates will be those that share a passion for football, the city of Houston and the region, and have plenty of southern hospitality to welcome visitors.

Volunteers will be required to work at least three shifts during the 10-day period leading up to Super Bowl LI. Staff volunteers will have shifts that will be six to eight hours, and volunteer supervisors will work eight to 10 hours shifts.

Volunteers will go through a three stage process. There will be a face-to-face interview, required training sessions and a background security check. All three phases must be completed before a volunteer is sent into a public setting.
