WATCH LIVE: Ceremony of renaming of HPD headquarters in honor of retired officer

HPD Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr. and Mayor Annise Parker are holding a formal ceremony renaming the HPD Headquarters building in honor of retired Senior Police Officer Edward A. Thomas.  KPRC Meteorologist Khambrell Marshall is emceeing the event.  Watch the livestream on headquarters building will be renamed the Houston Police Department Edward A. Thomas Building and there will be a short celebration honoring Thomas' 63 years of exemplary service and dedication to the department.Officer Thomas' more than six decades of hard work and courage paved the way for African American and minority officers at the Houston Police Department. He received numerous awards, commendations and letters of appreciation, and was one of the first African American police officers to integrate into HPD.The ceremony will take place in front of 1200 Travis in downtown Houston and all employees and citizens are invited to attend.  Travis will be closed from Bell to Dallas.  The closure will not be until 9:45 and should not affect rush-hour traffic, however there is th epossibility there will be heavy traffic in the area.
