UIL state football championships at NRG Stadium

The University Interscholastic League made it official Monday -- the state football championships are coming to Houston.

The deal was signed Monday afternoon where the UIL formally announced it will bring the event to NRG Stadium on Dec. 17 through Dec. 19 for 10 games in three days.

Kevin Hoffman of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation said the games will be beneficial for the city.

"Every year it grows," Hoffman said. "I anticipate that will be the case as long as football  is in Texas. So every year we will work hard with the UIL to make something like this happen."
