Pirellis are used by probably 80% of CMRA racers. I believe all cmra records are held by Pirelli as well(don't quote me but that's what I remember).

For sure any record from Ty or Danny. Would have to look up race reports for Derek and Danny, since they would go between Dunlop and Pirelli because of AMA.

Let's face it, Ty and Derek are going to be fast on whatever tire they ride on.
Another thing to consider is that at their level a big part of the equation of what tire they run is based upon how good of a deal the tire manufacturer is giving them in free tires.

Imo for the average rider you can throw a blanket over the main 4: Pirelli, Michelin, Dunlop and Bridgestone, and not go wrong.
At the end of the day pick the tire whose characteristics best suit your bike and riding style, as well a be realistic about how you're really riding the bike.

try something new, get a few different sets as they wear out and decide which one you like best. I choose Pirelli because they were highly recommended and have always stuck to the track well. I don't see myself switching anytime soon.

I like Dunlops simply because they seem to last the longest. Especially the fronts where they get replaced to do age. Some people hate them because you have to keep them hot. I do like the stiff carcass low pressure concept.

I've ridden both the pirelli and dunlop DOTs. I'm faster on the pirellis, and for me it comes down to feel: the dunlops, to me, are just numb. I can't tell when I'm approaching the edge so it's harder to flirt with it.

I've raced the Bridgestones DOT's and liked them.

Last season I switched to Pirelli's and fell in love.

I've experimented/tested with the Dunlops and although they did seam to last a little longer, I never felt comfortable and confident in the grip.

Honestly, the average trackday rider / novice racer would be fine on any of the top tire manufacturers.... But since I fell in love with Pirelli, that is what I would recommend.
