Pedrosa postpones MotoGP return

The Spaniard will return for the fifth round at Le Mans

REPSOL Honda rider Dani Pedrosa has been advised by doctors to delay his MotoGP return until Le Mans and therefore will not race at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The Spaniard underwent surgery after the Qatar Grand Prix on the 3rd April to help relieve a severe arm-pump problem.

Doctors have now completely removed the layer of fascia – the casing around the muscle – which was causing the arm-pump issue.

The Repsol Honda Team hoped Pedrosa would be back for Jerez this weekend, but despite three weeks of recovery doctors have recommended that the 29-year-old should rest until Le Mans – 17th May. This will then allow the arm more time to heal.

"I really hoped to return in Jerez but after riding a supermotard bike yesterday, we decided it’s not the best option,”explained Pedrosa.

“By competing in an entire race weekend we risk damaging the arm further and slowing down the healing process and the last thing I want to do is create a bigger problem.

"I’m missing my team and can’t wait to come back in Le Mans. Thank you all for all your kind messages, they give me strength in these tough times."

As Pedrosa will not be racing this weekend, Hiroshi Aoyama will therefore be his replacement for the third race in a row.
