Guy Martin on Top Gear Never say never

Road racer responds to Clarkson replacement speculation

GUY Martin has responded to speculation he could become the new anchor of Top Gear by saying: 'Never say never.'

The road racer spoke after bookies offered odds on him joining the BBC flagship show as a replacement for Jeremy Clarkson.

Martin, 33, told Ulster TV: ‘I don’t want to try and be the man who replaced Jeremy Clarkson, but never say never.’

He also joked that he ‘couldn’t get time off work’.

Martin is set to compete in this year's TT, North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix, but has already indicated his intention to scale down his racing commitments in 2016.

The North Lincolnshire racer has carved a successful career as a TV presenter, appearing in a number of shows including the Channel 4 series Speed with Guy Martin, in which he attempts to break unusual speed records.

Bookies are currently offering odds of 6/1 on Martin become the new host of Top Gear after Clarkson’s sacking for allegedly punching a producer in a row over catering arrangements.

Martin is behind presenter Dermot O’Leary and DJ Chris Evans, both at 3/1, and former supermodel Jodie Kidd, current favourite at 6/4.
