Gas Filling Problem

I ran out of gas the other day while riding. Thing is, when I filled it only filled to about 2.7 gallons, I know the tank is about 4.7 gallons big. I tried putting more but it really did seem full. Been riding though and the gas really just was at 2.7 gallons and when I try to fill, it seems like it doesn't want to fill the whole 4.7 gallons. It's weird. The tank looks full and I can't pump anymore, but it's only at about 2 and a half. What's going on?

Runs fine, starts fine, idles fine, don't get why it won't fill all the way.

Sometimes if I stick the gas nozzle too far into my tank it will stop filling it before its full. Did you try holding the nozzle at the lip of the tank and topping it off?

why dont you just ride it til the gas light comes on, then fill up. And like he said (points up), top it off at the lip, thats what i always do.

i always fill up with the nozzle at the top lip of the tank, you also might have gas splash while doing this or accidentally get gas on your tank so use a pump by the rags or carry one with you

Being 2 gallons short of full will leave the level pretty far down on most bikes. Are you sure you were actually out of gas?

Also make sure you're not filling it up while on the side stand
