Question Feeler - Supermoto How-to w/ pics

Hey everyone,
I have a new bike that i will be converting to supermoto trim here shortly. It's my second bike to do. I have parts here and I am eager to start on it.
I am trying to gauge intrest on the idea of making some sort of writeup about what is involved, and how I go about it. It wouldn't be all done at one time, since $$ is involved and I do not have the cash to do a full setup at one time. First would be purchasing items, including companies to look towards for parts and help. Approx. costs of what I have in it will be provided. Any thoughts about whether or not it's worth the time would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Yeah Carbon, I happen to be on both sites almost all the time.. CTRL+TAB is my best friend! SMJ is a VERY good resource for info. I'm glad you brought that up, thnx.
Fay, the bike is a `02 Honda CRF450R. I am working on before and possible after pics now to post. I really need a photobucket account!

You ever work on it in the AM? I don't go to work until the afternoon and I'd be wore than happy to hang out in the garage and learn a few things. I'm also pretty good at fetching tools and cold drinks.

Okay I have pics uploaded to myspace, and I will link to them temporarily.
Yeah Squeaky, I try to work in the mornings because as we all know, Houston gets damm hot in the afternoons. I started summer classes today (yes tuesday thanks to HCC sc\ewing up my classes), so I am busy 8-10:30 M-Thu. PM me or call, you have my digits. I am going to try to get another member; Chaos_Magic_Man, to meet up also as he is pursuing a SM conversion for the first time on a Suz. DR650. Anyone feel free to PM me, I am trying to meet more people from MH as everyone seems to be an awesome group of people and we can all learn something form others on here!

Do it...do it...do it, if you build it...well you know the rest.

I'm thinking I need a motard, I find myself saying that more and more.

I don't plan on getting a bike to convert it to a motard anytime soon... but I'd love to see the bike's progress, so it you have the time, do it! I'm sure it would be some vauled information!

Talking

Okay it's official..
I'll start writing up stuff in my spare time and getting pics and pricing etc together along with links to honest, helpful information. Please feel free to give me feedback along the way, and questions are always good... cuz as your fourth grade homeroom teacher always said, "the only dumb questions are..."
I'm excited

wow that sucks, hopefully they'll follow through on their end of the paperwork..
YEah, i have DOT tires and basically everything sitting in my garage awaiting operation. I want to legalize it, and i have a title with mine, and a friend that is a sherriff that has a XR650R that he is legalizing also. he says you just need horn, hi/lo headlight and tail/brakelight. I don't understand this since I am a state inspector (for inspection stickers) and to pass inspection by the book you need more than that like turn signals, hi beam indicator, etc..
We'll see how it goes.. have you done the stator rewind yet?
i'm considering running a battery and no stator rewind since it's kick start. battery jsut for head/tail lights.
pics of your CRF?

Okay here's an update...
I have rims, tires, valve stems, a kickstand, spokes, nipples, etc.. As my GF went out of town and took her camera, I am unable to take pictures as planned. I have laced the front wheel, sealed it, mouted the tire, and mounted the wheel on the bike. I went with gold rims to match the gold Talon hubs i already had. The back is a little different story.. Buchanan Spokes; the company to get custom spokes and nipples from in the USA, somehow translated the part number for the rear hub into one that is different from the number I gave them. So i recieved spokes for a TA647a instead of a TA637A. Since they're custom, they won't let me return them or give me any type of credit towards the correct spokes. I guess it helps having a HUGE niche on the market. Grr... SO now i have to pay for another set of spokes, and wait like a week and a half for them before the bike will be rolling on 17's.. The kickstand went on smoothly, as I had hoped.
Chaos_magic_man stopeed by last night after we went riding on the Dualsports, so he was able to see the progress and the tools strewn around the garage. I was really hoping to have the bike together for the 6/16 BBQ, but probably not, thanks to Buchanan Spoke & Rim... Sorry for the lack of pictures, this is not going as I had planned and I am frustrated...
PS- anyone want to chip in 75$ for upgraded shipping on my spokes so they can see (and poss. ride) the bike at the BBQ?? :eh:

i think this will be a cool writeup. i myself am doing a mini Supermoto setup on my 04 crf100. i am trying to find out everything i will need to do it. i'll be racing it for CMRA mini endurance next season, and some TMGP this season. i still dont' know where to begin on parts and reputable companies.
