New video game aims to put you in the riders seat

Ride looks like Gran Turismo on two wheels

VIDEO games about bikes tend to fall a little flat when it comes to appealing to people who can actually ride the real things. Somehow, sitting on the sofa pressing buttons on a gamepad struggles to capture the essence of motorcycling.

But they keep coming regardless, and the latest offering – Ride from Bandai Namco – is something of a change from the usual MotoGP or WSBK-themed playthings.

Instead of sticking you in Rossi’s seat, it’s taking the same tack as games like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport do on four-wheels, giving you a wide range of production machines to race, including the Ducati 1199 Superleggera featured in this trailer. The tracks also look likely to be road-oriented rather than the usual race circuits.

So far, details are still sketchy other than the planned Spring 2015 release date and promises that Ride will be offered on Playstation 3 and 4, XBox 360, XBox One and on PC. Four trailers on Youtube show that among the 100-plus bikes on offer, you’ll be able to ride the Yamaha MT-09, Kawasaki Z1000, KTM RC8-R and Ducati Superleggera.
