Welcome ... start saving for gear. Also start going to dealers and looking at bikes...ask to sit on them and check them out. Find a couple bikes you like ... do not pass up looking at the smaller 250/300/500 available from Kawi and Honda. Then put a list of 3 bikes together (put a 250 or 300 on your list) and call an moto insurance company. Being a first year rider and depending on age you will see 1 reason why people will tell you start on a 250/300 preowned. You are able to learn, lower cost of maintenance and the bikes are easy to flip for close to the same price you paid to another newbie when you move up.

Good luck on your MSF. Check for meets on your side of town in the events/ride section ...cage it out meet some people.
