I'm sure he just wanted to make sure he didn't have any hidden contraband. Besides what's a little assault and battery? Just because he had his buddy conduct a completely illegal search doesn't mean he wasn't doing it for the greater good. Besides who needs a pesky 4th amendment anyway?

We further make fun of other countries who have weaker defenses while demanding ours to be tougher on crime and to stop crimes before they happen. The result is what you see here, just another example of what we all created for ourselves.

As far as this "physical" approach. A slap on the head does seem deserved for this kid. It just should've been his parents though and not the tax payers to administer it. After all the weakling gave up his keys anyway. He's not even willing to fight for his own rights, so yep expect that your going to loose them.

The point was, the police have more power than the people they are to protect. It is how the majority of people want it to ensure public safety

Not saying people want their rights violated, but generally people want the police to do more, not less, and to prevent crimes before they happen and not just file paper work after they occur.

The imbalance we see is this video a persons rights violated, however, that is not even a crime that the officer is charged with. All they can charge him with is Not following procedures and harassment, but he could potentially charge you with a lot more.

The flip side here is that this kid in the video is also an idiot, just as much of one as the officer.

The story goes, the guy buys a gun, leaves it in the back seat of his car, parks in a conspicuous location, goes into a party and then comes back out shorty after with his friend.

Not exactly responsible behavior to leave a gun out in the car in plain view. This is why I say he deserved to get slapped. Who knows, mabye he just forgot it or mabye he could've been planning to go back in and shoot up the place. Eventhough it is not a crime, the police were there to give him about it in their interest to prevent acts before they happen.

The person in the video clearly brought this attention on himself and I actually believe it was an intentional set up. The cop took the bait.

Guess you missed the part where the LEO wrenched the kid's keys away.

any time a leo has to ask permission, I am going to say no....just because.
I am not obstructing them from doing their job, I am insisting that they do it the right way.

But he didn't. He can still draw a pension and no charges were filed.

Can't believe assault charges where not filed. You know someone would be in jail if the roles where reversed.

As lowly citizens, we have to read and evaluate the cops that detain us just like they have to read and evaluate the citizens they detain.

In the short video, he seemed sincere enough about his intentions to search the car and have everyone go on about their merry way if no further cause was found. If the legal firearm was my only reason to pique his interest, I would have been happily compliant with his asking to search the car.

It might have come back to bite me in the but I usually trust my judgment.
