2015 BMW R1200R | FIRST LOOK

The BMW legend was built on basic and tough boxer twins, starting 91 years ago with the R32 and continuing to 2015 with the new R1200R, which combines the tradition of simplicity of design with up-to-date electronics and engine upgrades to make a versatile performer even more so.

The heart of the R1200R is a DOHC flat twin that churns out 125 horsepower and 92 foot-pounds of torque, which represents an increase in torque over the entire rev range compared to its predecessor. A 2-into-1 exhaust system features a steeply angled silencer. Thanks in part to the modified airbox and newly shaped intake snorkels, power delivery is more uniform across the board, too.

A tubular-steel bridge frame uses the engine as a self-supporting element. The front fork is an upside-down unit, and the rear is BMWs EVO Paralever. The upright seating position is designed with a slight front bias for long-distance comfort. A full-featured instrument cluster offers an array of functions and information.

The R1200R might be a basic bike, but its available with cutting-edge electronic aids like Rain and Road riding modes, and an optional Pro mode; Dynamic Traction Control as part of the Pro option; optional Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment; an optional Keyless Ride system; and standard ABS.

The 2015 R1200R comes in three color schemes: Cordoba Blue Non-Metallic; the Style 1 variant of Light White Non-Metallic with the frame in Racing Red; and the Style 2 variant in Thunder Gray Metallic with the frame in Agate Gray Metallic Matte. MSRP to be announced.
