Slip-on question

How important is...

I bought a used slip on and never got one thinking I could use the old one. Turns out the old one was an oval shape and this one is round, so it doesn't fit.

Been riding without it and it seems okay. I'm assuming this is to keep the exhaust pipe from bending if you bump into something, or can it crack under stress when it gets hot?

Mine's off but I have a mounting bolt right at the bottom of the frame before the midpipe sweeps up. If you have the same it should be okay.

You just made a two foot lever arm with a five pound weight on the end of your header. It'll probably be fine, but unless the midpipe was really short and/or the muffler was really light, I probably wouldn't do it.

it's the same exact bike as pictured. If you look at the bottom of the bike where the black frame meets the engine, that's where the mounting bolt is.

It's also one of those short one's, more like an amplifier than a muffler really, so I suppose that equals less leverage.

Well I don't know anything about strap buying. I just assumed they only come with slip-ons. Are there standardized sizes or what?

Does cycle gear have them or am I going to have to pay out the for one?

I still have the old one. I had been thinking maybe I could cut the existing one down, bend then end of it and drill it...but I guess I would have to try it to see how well it would work.

I guess I just wanted to see if it even mattered before I wasted time trying to rig something up/get a new one.

cool that's on the way home. What materials do I need to bring? I have a lot of metals in our shop, just no equipment to work on it other than saws.
