I always thought the idea of a Star Wars style, blast armor suit would be a good idea for track protection.
What I mean is, a hard armor suit with a leather/mesh chassis. It would have to have some rubber or nylon pucks on it to add friction or else you would slide forever but I think it would give better protection than just leather.
It could even include hyperextension stops to prevent, for example, your knee from bending the wrong way.

As far as buying a "super hero" suit...

not for me, but I can see circumstances where it would be fun.
