Hey IBang,
Keep posting the progress. I have an 01 SV as well. It's a track bike now, but will retire it from the tracks end of this year and get another track bike with faster top-end. And was thinking of turning the SV into a naked bike, and was looking for ideas. Maybe something like the one in this picture.

I like the tube frame on those old SV's. Good find. I've been looking for something as a throw around 2nd bike myself. Looking good.

Nice build thread man, nice steal! 500!!!

That plugged line, I have something like that on my ninja 650 and it fills up a tiny bit after 5k miles or so, but mine had a legit plug on it. my line is clear also so i can see the level of build up

Hey Ian, did you drop the engine on the SV? If so, how did you overcome the special tool that is needed?

I have an 03 and I plan on droping the engine, possibly today. I've heard that by using a 23 mm with 6 points of attachment should do the trick. I am wondering if that is the case, though.

Well I blew some money on motorcycle related stuff today!

First I went with my fiancee to cycle gear to get her a track suit. We did find one for her but while she was figuring out what size to get I ran across a pair of alpinestars leather pants on the clearance rack that happened to be my size and had the matching zipper to my A* jacket so now we both have track accpetable full leathers! This is great since I've been wearing textile and mesh pants for years now and wanting leather for my lower half.

In $500 SV related news, clinttoney has been nice enough to donate his perfect condition SV1000 cans to the project! How is that for a nice guy! I think you guys will like what I have planned for these

And what's this in the corner of my garage?

Could it be a '06 gsxr 600 front end complete with both triples, wheel, brakes, BMC, steering stem and all lines?

You better believe it! Scored this baby for $300 short one clip on. Honestly I want to stay with the full bar look and more upright riding position anyway, so I'll likely just modify the stock upper triple to accept bar mounts. It is scuffed all up anyway so its a good candidate for me to start surgery on.

I've got my trip to the dragon coming up within the next couple weeks and I don't want to find myself with my bike out of commission for that so the forks will stay in the corner for a little while. I'll content myself with messing with the upper triple for now.

I've been waiting all week for my stuff to come in and right when I was about to give up on it getting in with time to work on it this weekend, everything showed up earlier today.

Two chain/sprocket combos for both of the SV's and a stealth vapor for my bike.

Spent a good chunk of the afternoon figuring out wiring. As mentioned on here several places, the instructions with the vapor suck. The threads on here help, but I spent a lot of time confused before I realized that some of what is being said doesn't apply since I bought the SV specific pack and don't need a raptor 700 sensor or resistor or anything else. I managed to tap into everything I needed behind the headlight with the stock connectors since my stock gauges are dead and I don't need to save the connectors from them.

End result?

I still have some programming to do to get the speedo calibrated and get shift lights adjusted, but I'm loving it so far. I do want to re-locate it further forward where the original gauges were but that can wait. I have to re-mount it on the new forks anyway. I also want to add one of those brackets that holds a neutral light, turn signal lights, etc. This is just to get me through my trip to the dragon next week. Tomorrow I'll get the chains and sprockets onto both bikes and maybe go for a ride. It'll be good to get out on the road for a bit.

lol, good to see someone remembers the old build threads.

Right now I've switched gears to prep mode for the trip to the dragon this Friday. There's plenty of work waiting in the wings for the SV, but at this point I don't dare dig into anything for fear that I won't have it back together by the end of the week.

Right now my to-do list looks something like this:

GSXR front end
Re-finish exhaust pipes
Bodywork aftermarket bottom fairing that came with the bike
New front fairing (I have some ideas about this, keeping it quiet for now)
New cans
Upgrade rear shock

Some of those sooner, some later, but they all need to be taken care of.

No I'm not. Originally I was thinking that was the direction I wanted to go - clipons and all of that, but I spent a little more time with the bike and decided I actually really liked the more relaxed riding position and the look of the bike with full bars. With that in mind I've started drawing my inspiration more from bikes like the ducati monster, MV brutale, and honda CB1000.

My biggest desire is to kill off the resemblance to a cruiser. Originally I planned to get rid of the round light to do that, but ultimately I think I've grown kind of attached to it so I'll looks elsewhere to style the bike.
