First Oil Change Question

I'm a bit over the suggested mileage for the first oil change. . . I'm just wondering where on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being "what the is wrong with you, you shouldn't be allowed to own a bike") I fall. The dealership told me to bring it back somewhere between 600-1000 miles, but I'm nearing 1300 miles. How egregious an act am I committing against poor Mogee?

the only reason you have to change it so early is to get all of the metal shavings out from the motor breaking in

You have destroyed your engine and voided your warranty, but since I'm such a good guy I'll give you a thousand bucks for it and haul it off to get it out of your way. J/K Now for the real answer: You haven't hurt a thing, other than perhaps give a hardass dealer an excuse to argue about engine related warranty issues (not likely). Change the oil and filter and press on - ride more --worry less.

English teacher? Geez, you must cringe every time you get on this site!

Yeah, just go ahead and change it now. If your oil drain plug has a magnet, look for the shavings. You might want to move your next oil change up just a bit, but I really wouldn't worry about it. I've got 33k miles on mine and I've let oil changes go for almost 6k when the manual recommends 3. Other than the oil being a little thicker after that kind of duration, it hasn't caused any problems.

Radar! Extra credit on that quiz. :icon_bigg I started to write I'm an English instructor. . . then changed it. Sigh. I need to take my own "revise by reading aloud" advice don't I? Does it help to say that I'm just so comfortable with ya'll that I've let things slip a bit?

I couldn't resist - I thought you'd get a kick out of it as opposed to being offended - seems you're a good sport. No promises, but in time I may can get you a can of corn from Brazil - I have close friends that originated there and go there frequently - I'll try.

Radar, you rock! He must have visited my website or something and realized that I'm not joking about collecting cans of corn from around the world. I have one from Brazil (see photo), but I'm always in the run for another brand. I have 25 of them so far. I would have had 26, but the one from Sweden was a pop top, and I guess the cargo hold it came over in wasn't pressurized. Ugh. I'll never forget opening that package. . .

I'm not sure how I picked corn specifically; I think I saw a collection of Coke cans from around the world. I wanted something similar but different, and since I'm obsessed with seeing the familiar in unfamiliar ways, and since corn is one of my favorite veggies--here I am. :icon_bigg The only country I seem to be unable to get one from is Russia. Every attempt fails for one reason or another. I figure this will be my great legacy, the thing I pass on for future generations to look at and wonder "what the f&$k was wrong with her?" :laughing6

Awww, I had a little red ear turtle once named Rufus. Do you collect live box turtles, representations, or both?

haha, add your collection to your will! have you tried eBay? you find all sorts of funky stuff on there....I wonder why you can't get corn from russia...odd.

yeah, they're alive. If i had a camera their pics would be all over my webspace, they're like my kids. I've had my main female since i was 8, my males have come and gone over the years (catch and release, I have 2 at the moment), i have 2 juvenile females, and "the brood"- 4 babies from this past summer's clutch. All of them except my main female and the males were home grown. How long did you have Rufus?

I had him a bit less than 2 years. When I left for Arizona, my oldest nephew begged me to let him have Rufus. I didn't know how it would work out taking him from the Gulf to the desert, so we modified a plastic kiddy swimming pool into a nice outdoor habitat. The next summer I got a call from my nephew; Rufus went missing, and the "how" was never solved. I think a bratty neighborhood kid took him , but who knows.
