a little to chilly for me today. My commute is 80 miles round trip. My helmet flows too much air even with the vents shut, so my face gets cold even with a mask. My boots too, so need new helmet and boots, other than that Im geared up. Never tried heated gear though, I need to look into that!

The under-tail exhaust on the (naked) Sprint makes a nice heated-seat sensation in the winter, don't imagine it'll be much fun in the summer though.

A balaclava will keep the wind off your face. You'd need a winter riding suit for a 40 mile ride in these temps.

I was joking about my gear being heated. It's heated by my body.

What Bevo said, and if your helmet has a chin skirt, use it.

Cheaper than boots. http://www.cyclegear.com/BILT-Tornad...roof-Overboots
You can save a lot of money on cold weather gear this time of year. All you have to do is go to Academy and buy some ski pants. They're insulated, water resistant, and will be on closeout soon if they're not already. Wear a sweater (or something fleece) under your riding jacket, and throw this on over everything.

No need to spend a fortune on an insulated riding suit. The hardest thing to keep warm will be your hands.

I have a balaclava, thats what i mean by mask. Its the freeze out brand i believe. Still lets a bit of wind through. I dont have a problem with my current insulated riding pants, they are really warm, even in these temps. You are right about the hands, but i wear some glove liners and winter gloves and its not too bad. Mainly my feet are the problem, but i wear tennis shoes with freeze out socks. I need boots anyway!

I may give that Tornado gear a shot though! I dont know if that rain suit will even go over my riding pants, the pants are already REALLY bulky!

I bought mine two sizes too big. It fits easily over a pair of Carhart overalls and a textile jacket w/full quilted liner and a fleece jacket underneath.

If it's one of the newer ones, I've always thought they looked too thin. Is yours neoprene? Mine looks kinda like this and works like a champ.

You could get a 2 piece rain suit at academy. That's what I use when it's raining REDICULOUSLy. 10 dollars. Fits over my bulky gear. What you can also do is wear a bandana around your neck or a neck gaitor to keep the wind from going under your helmet.

That's the one I have. It has no armor so I wear a ballistic jacket and knee/shin guards under it. If it's over 45 degrees you'll sweat in it. Just have to be careful around the exhaust. Some folks have complained they melted parts of theirs when their leg accidentally touched a pipe.

to help with wind around/under my helmet I will usually wear a fleece-lined eddie bauer scarf my mother-in-law got me several years ago. never thought I'd wear a scarf, but tucked just inside the lip of the helmet it does help quite a bit.
