Problem with riding on a "Pace" ride is making sure everyone is capable of riding the speeds set. Very easy to get sucked into a curve wayy over your head if you aren't prepared.

A "Pace" ride means you set a speed, and pretty much run that number the whole way, straights and turns included. Very fun in the right group, dangerous with the wrong mix.

And you are completely correct in the fact that one mans moderate is another mans spirited, and vice versa... that is the bottom line problem with group rides, especially public ones that you don't know who you are riding with.
