DAM It finally happened.

Ok where do I start? Well let's try it this way. I CRASHED. To be more specific I had a minor high side. Of all the places to do it. I was leaving my house and going to the HAK meet. I fired it up. Pulled around a big tree in my yard. Like I always do. Rode out the gravel and dirt driveway. Like I always do. Problem tonight was the temps were in the low 60's, and the grass and driveway were wet. I made a wide sweeping right turn out of my driveway. I allowed myself to cross the center of the road. I had straightened up the bike and started to apply the gas. I was up to about 15 mph. Unfortunately I was crossing back over to my side and I think I went across the stripe. Just then BAM! The bike went sideways and I did the wrong thing (I think) by letting off the throttle. As soon as it caught, I knew it was over, but by then I was already sliding on my side. Somehow, I hit/landed on my left side and immediately rolled over to my rightside. I lost sight of the bike for the next 30 ' or so then just as we were both coming to a stop it came back into view. Only a few feet from me still. It slid off into a ditch. Judging from the scrape marks on the road we both slid about 40'. I got up and started searching for the wounds.
Somehow, I jammed my right middle finger and the ring finger on the same hand bleed alittle from under the nail. What's weird about that is that I had on my Sidi full gauntlet gloves. The same ones that I wear at the track. I also had on my Side Vertigos and somehow I bruised the inside edge of my left heel. The real damage though is to my shoulder. I just got back from the emergency room. Prognosis is probable torn ligaments holding the collarbone to the shoulder joint. Medical term is AC separation. The worst thing about this is that Iím left handed. I have been referred to an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation. More on that as it develops. Back to the crash...
My bike was lying just off the road on the side of the ditch. Tried picking it up then decided to remove my gear and check the shoulder out a little better. I have a big knot on top, which turned out to be the end of my collarbone. I decided it wasn't broke since it moved around to easy and didn't hurt that much. So I went back over and picked up the bike. Tried to idle it back onto the road only to have the rear spin down the bank. So I backed it down into the bottom. I turned it around to ride up the other side since it was near as steep or as high. That didn't work so I decided to go to the next driveway where it was even more shallow on both counts. If I had been healthy I could have rode it out, but I wasn't feeling like testing myself again and the ditch was wet and slippery. So I ended up lying it on it's good side, since the other way would have meant lying it upside down. Then I went and solicited help from my neighbor. With his help, it was an easy push out.
Except for the scratches on the side of the helmet where my head hit fairly hard. And the tear in my right knee of my best jeans. The damage to the rest of gear is nonexistent. I was wearing my cortech mesh jacket. And it doesn't have a scratch on it. However, the bike didn't make out so well. The top cowl over the gas tank has a big hole in it and is all askew due to the broken mounting points. The shogun frame sliders did their job. Although all 3 pieces (bar end, swingarm spool, and frameslider) are know ground down alittle. The left side cowling received scratches on the top edge of it. Minor scratches are on the clutch lever, the left stay holding the mirror and windscreen, turn signal/mirror, passenger peg and the edge of the rear cowl around the passenger seat. And the left foot peg has broken off.
I had heard that BT-003 dot race tires weren't good when wet, but I didn't think about it when riding around my yard as I was leaving. I will next time though. Especially when they are cold, wet, and dirty.
Oh BTW while I've got you captive reading this long post.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Sucks, get well! High sides seem to hurt the most.
