I ride street a LOT in full leathers - I45, 59, Allen Parkway, Kemah, Downtown, etc. When I don't ride in leathers, I am wearing as much gear as one can wear - leather jacket, riding jeans, race boots/gloves, helmet, back protector and knee guards. I prefer full leathers still because I feel more comfortable on the bike and take more risks.

When I nearly went off I-10 Overpass, I was in full leathers and scraped knee on the concrete barrier. How dumb would you feel if you were to crash and then wish you had on your $20 knee guards or $100 back protector?
