I spent a year lane sharing in CA in the 80s, and loved it. Of course, the cagers there are cool with it, for the vast majority anyway. Here it would certainly take a while for the word to get out. If this bill ever makes it into law, I plan on getting vinyl lettering done for the back of my Givi top-box. Something along the lines of,

"Lane sharing LEGAL as of 2011
[reference traffic code section]"

Won't stop the road ragers, but will make the non-psychotic think, and will help get the cops off on the right foot if/when they want to pull me over. Doesn't hurt to be rolling publicity/public education.

Oh, and if I ever got squeezed off from rolling past a car on the freeway in CA, I just eased back, made a lane change to another white stripe, and then rolled on down the road. No need to get confrontational, it's so easy to move on by at another time and/or place.
