"No doubt the major U.S. energy companies would love to be working with Iran today in developing these vast oil and gas supplies. At present, however, they are prohibited from doing so by Executive Order (EO) 12959, signed by President Clinton in 1995 and renewed by President Bush in March 2004. The United States has also threatened to punish foreign firms that do business in Iran (under the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act of 1996), "

dunno sounds like were not supposed to be buying from them.....

i'll keep looking.

We buy gasoline from Iran via large Mideastern oil trade agency OPEC.

From this source http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/pgulf.html (the govt source)

OECD Oil Imports from the Persian Gulf
U.S. gross oil imports from the Persian Gulf rose during 2003 to 2.5 million bbl/d (almost all of which was crude), from 2.3 million bbl/d in 2002. The vast majority of Persian Gulf oil imported by the United States came from Saudi Arabia (71%), with significant amounts also coming from Iraq (19%), Kuwait (9%), and small amounts (less than 1% total) from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Iraqi oil exports to the United States rose slightly in 2003, to 481,000 bbl/d, compared to 442,000 bbl/d in in 2002. Saudi exports rose from 1.55 million bbl/d in 2002 to 1.77 million bbl/d in 2003. Overall, the Persian Gulf accounted for about 22% of U.S. net oil imports, and 12% of U.S. oil demand, in 2003.

Iran is a part of OPEC...We purchase from OPEC, OPEC supllied by Iran, Iran the the 3rd (not 4th) largest supplier of oil to the world....I'm sure a GREAT deal of OPEC's oil comes from Iran...

We don't buy directly from Iran, but we do in fact BUY from Iran...(there's that reading comp. we were discussing before)

Western Europe (defined as European countries"

from the gov't source. IRan's not listed as a big contributor.

So do we purchase oil from OPEC? If your answer is yes...then my next question is: Does Iran contribute to OPEC's oil supplies?

We do not buy oil from opec, opec is simply a trade organization who's purpose is to facilitate (& manipulate, in my opinion) trading of oil by controlling the supply, price etc.

Well Racer X...I will concede that we don't buy oil directly from Iran to date...I stand corrected. Wasn't my main point anyway....

...yeah, that's why I'm not all for the "strengthening of the (Mideast) region" that Bush is so into at the moment...They hate us, regardless of the amount of aid we give them. Everyone is working for the fall of the US...look at recent developments of Russia and China at the UN.
