Dented gas tank = safe?

As most of you know I crashed my bike on the left side so there's a hole in the gas tank. I found this gas tank on Ebay for a pretty good deal except it's dented. I'm not sure if it's safe. Any advice?

Be patient, you will find a nice (undamaged) tank in the right color shortly.

The challenge is patience.

Oh, I didn't mention that I'm going to slowly restore the bike, transfer the bike to my friend's place, and ride when the next season comes around. I admit, I love riding.

I don't mind a dented tank but I just don't know if it's safe. Do you still think it's a good buy? Thanks for the support AKS_Racing.

its metal, when metal is ground down it becomes thinner..... so as far as safe goes, it just depends how much got ground down. thats a pretty big dent/rash on that tank... i personally would wait to find a perfect tank

As long as it doesn't leak there no real reason why it would be unsafe.
That tank doesn't look to me like it would leak, however, I agree with the others.
Keep looking and get a nicer tank, then no worries and no expensive repair work to make it right.

get this for it....
http://www.kneedraggers.com/product/...ders-Yamaha-R6
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=yam....c0.m270.l1313

tank sliders.. goes right on top if that dint!
one of the main reasons why they make this for r6 is because let like to catch on fire every time you crash, the gas tank its easy to damage once you crash it. like you did.

The tank sliders looks a little ugly to me but after what happened to mine it's worth the investment.

I'm going to keep the bike in my garage for another month or so before moving it out. I'll hit you up when I'll move it. Thanks.

I would buy almost any dented tank but an R6 tank. Those things are like the Ford Pinto when it comes to catching fire.

No leak, no problem. But will it survive another mishap?

All the racebikes are required to have them. So they look.....racey.

Thanks for the support guys. In light of the knee getting scraped, it really sucks tending to this wound. I'm also looking for some knee protection, hip protection, back protection, and chest/rib protection.

Call me crazy but I'd rather deck out like Iron Man then have to deal with the healing problems later.
