Careful dragging the Dragon

From Rider Magazine, August 2006 Issue:
" Be careful if you're planning on riding any of the popular
motocycling roads in Tennessee and North Carolina this summer.
Operation Dragon 2006 is a combines effort by the two states' highway
patrols to crack down on "unsafe" riding and driving, especially on
weekends on U.S. 129, aka The Dragon, from Deal's Gap to Tabcat
Bridge. North Carolina troopers will also be assigned to the Cherohala
Skyway linking Robbinsville to Tellico Plains. Marked and unmarked
cars, motorcycles and aircraft will all be used in the effort, which
is expected to run through the fall."

Remember, July 19,2006 is the 15th annual RIDE TO WORK DAY.

Scare tactics and BS. Most people cannot even ride the dragon at the speed limit anyways. It is more about the unsafe passing more than anything.

Cherohala Skyway is where most people light it up. Unfortunately, that's also where all the 1000+ ft drops are.

that's the last place I want to go with law enforcement everywhere and tons of people going 20 mph through switchbacks. Was just a matter of time before that happened, tail of the dragon got way too popular.

It isn't as bad as they make it out to be. Now on the weekends, it is a totally different story. But the majority of the riders on the weekends are of the Harley crowd and the car crowds.
They make it out like they could use aircraft but the whole road is covered in trees.
It is just a pubicity stunt to curb the activity on the road. But don't fear, there are plenty of other great roads in the area.

The same stuff goes happens on Palomar Mt. in California. Even more so.
