A good rule of thumb when riding a motorcycle is that if it makes you nervous then you shouldn't do it. If riding in heavy traffic makes you really nervous then you aren't ready to do it. If taking your gf on a ride makes you nervous then you aren't ready to do it. If taking a corner at a certain speed makes you nervous then you aren't ready to do it. If a plug in the tire makes you nervous then get a new tire. The plugs are pretty safe, but the air in the tire is the only thing that is keeping you above ground. Just my .02 for whatever it's worth. Welcome to motorcycling, it's supposed to be fun so don't go doing things that take the fun out of it.
