Honda 50 bent frame issue..

One of my good buddies has a badass Honda 50. He is a bigger guy and we were riding one day and while hammering a sand trap at a golf course he bent his subframe becuase he hit the "berm" soo hard. He doesn't have the money to buy a replacement so we have been contemplating an at-home fix for this.

Basically taking a cheater bar and bending it back straight. Then taking a couple pieces of 1/4" x 1/2" x 8" steel and welding it on both sides of the roundbar of the subframe to re-enforce.

This wouldn't be for cosmetics looks by any means but rather a cheaper fix to make the bike rideable again. I told him to just bit the bullet and buy a new subframe or entire frame but it's hard to convince him to spend that money right now.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this? We have the tools necessary to fabricate too.

Thanks

Just Ride it!
Nah, just kidding, i think wedgin a bar in there and bending it back would be fine, i did it on my TW and my Ninja. If you have the means to stiffen it up with some steel I would go for that too.

Trust me i've told him to just ride the bike already since it's been at least 4-5 months now since he's ridden it. Every other week he says, "man, i need to get my 50 fixed" and still nothing

I figured it would work. I think we'll have to be careful with the welding since that tubing is really thin.

go to home depot /lowes & pick up 2 18 inch 1/2 thick solid bars . hammer each past the point where the brace meets the subframe

Never thought of that. We'll have to look into trying that out.
