Unless something rare happens as Jim mention above w a short etc, the bike isnt going to die outright.

Colder temperatures put more strain on the system. Make sure there isnt any electrolist buildup on the battery terminals not allowing the battery to be charged etc

sry havent kept up with post the first volt meter is kinda jacked up cuz it read like 18 the second time i tried it so i went to autozone to use the one at wrk and it stayed at a constant 12.2 when revved up to 5k rpms so i called sunny reported wat happen he told me stator or rectifier i took the rectifier off and had two long ridged bumpy lines on the back coating so the bike is at sunnys rite now should be good by tommorow i hope again sry for the headaches!

sounds like the stator went....same exact thing happened to me this summer and my stator had fried
