some peoples parents...

So the 12 is gone, buddy of mine sold it for me, was present at the time of sale, talked to 16 yr old kid's father( who was purchasing), father asks.."Is this bike fast?" i reply.." Yeah its real f-ing fast!" with a serious tone and look on my face, father says "Well this is his first bike and he just has to have it so...." shook my head and walked away, so everyone keep your fingers crossed. I am.

My son is 14. I could not imagine in my wildest dreams that I would buy him a bike like that in two years. If he asked for something like that not only would I say h3ll no, I'd say h3ll fu(|<ing no!

But then again not all parents are created equal. Bet he'd feel like a million if his son goes down and is seriously injured or dies.

I hope Papa takes him to the track. The Kid can make it if he is taught properly and respects the power.

i agree about the respect the power thang and thats prolly what will happen under dad's eyes but now enter the thought process of a 16yr old kid under the watchfull eyes of his male and especially female peers and well...

"he just HAS to have it"???? What the ? who's running that family anyway?? no child HAS to have anything - much less the wrong thing! Dad needs to get a grip on his duties.

Well, I have to admit that when I first started to ride about 10 years ago, speed and power and gear and MSF meant very little to me. Bikes were cool, power was good. The wreck statistics weren't obvious or shown to me. The danger of being on a bike (not even considering lack of gear and safety training) was non-existant.

An old lady cut me off and I wrecked that bike.
Shaved skin off my arms and legs.
Carved meat off my knuckles, wrist, elbow and knee.
Broke 3 bones in my foot.

Fast forward to my recent bike purchase. I wasn't gonna make the same mistake and get a sportsbike first. I was gonna get a cruiser, a helmet and I'm good. My buddy that introduced me to this site said, "Man, I always wear my gear. Jacket, boots, helmet gloves. Dress for the wreck, not the ride."
He said his jacket cost $400, that was UNFKNGbelievable to me. Even though I had already wrecked, I still didnt make the connection. I thought, eh... it's just a cruiser and it really wasn't my fault that I wrecked, that dumb lady cut me off.

I gotta admit that it's been this site and some of the riders I've learned from that have finally gotten me to FULL GEAR ALL THE TIME. So don't be too judgemental of new riders, it isn't always obvious at first.

The sad part is he would blame it in riding in general, not that he was on a bike he was not equipped to handle.

indeed. he would become one of those parents that leads the charge against sport bikes and there would be some new ridiculous law named after his son.
