Thinking about becoming a racer?

Read this article in another forum. The member that posted it got it from an old CBR900 mailing list. I found it compelling, and had to share it here with you guys:

The message seems to give the reality of the sport, as opposed to the fantasy world some trackday riders may perceive. I'm sure some racers will chime in.

after reading that, i have concluded....

EVERY bit of that sounds very true and i've experienced most of that. Competing is about losing more than winning....it's up to you if winning a little is worth losing a lot.

just an opinion of another broke/broken racer.....

Broken...highly doubtful. Your sig with your championships suggest otherwise.

It's definitely a good dose of reality for those that are considering racing for the wrong reasons. I don't envision this discouraging anyone that is fully prepared and well aware of the realities of racing.

that is true my wife loves to go to the races with me because of the people she doesn't care at all about bikes going fast. one more thing is racer 997 posted a life span of the avg racer as a racer on the CMRA board a while back. Sort of like the ages of man.

PS why do you have a CARACARA for an avatar?

I thought it was pretty dead on. If you make it past 4 full years of racing you will understand.

I don't think it makes racing sound bad. Kinda like explaining skydiving, skateboarding, bull riding. It can sound scary but thats what is so cool about it.

If you are going to race the CMRA or TMGP is where to do it. The best way to get into racing is mini endurance then big bike endurance if you want. As Scotty D said when I took riders school you learn to race in endurance once you have learn you can show it off in the sprints. I never really learned so I stayed in the endurance part.
