Maybe not in the US. Europe was a little further than that by then. The story at some point states Sweden, one of the best connected countries in Europe next to Finland and Norway. It may not even have been a phone but something else that took the drivers attention more than driving.

As for the comment about speed limit, in Europe on many outside roads 85 Mph is the legal limit (~130Km/h).

The point is though: even if this is old and been over the net it still holds true. Pay attention! Which involves both sides, cagers and riders.
